December 2026: An all-new, immersive experience of the Sun Valley Winter Sports Hall of Fame! The Community Library’s Wood River Museum of History + Culture is creating an interactive exhibit to be installed in the alley between the Gold Mine Thrift and Consign stores on Walnut Avenue in Ketchum.

About the Sun Valley Winter Sports Hall of Fame

The Sun Valley Winter Sports Hall of Fame honors those whose achievements in sport or business has been matched or even exceeded by their contributions to this community.

The honorees you see here are those who have certainly excelled, whether it be at hockey, alpine skiing, figure skating or Nordic skiing, in building the Sun Valley resort or sport related business here in the Wood River Valley, but these individuals have done more than just succeed – some created internationally known companies, some supported the infrastructure of alpine or Nordic skiing, some won gold medals, and others created ski races or hockey infrastructure that have become integral parts of the fabric of our community.

Why do we talk about community so much in a sports hall of fame?

Here in this still remote valley, sport and community have been inextricable for over 100 years. From baseball and basketball teams during mining days to ski races at the Sun Valley Resort in their very first winter of operations in 1936-1937, sports have gathered friends and neighbors together for healthy (and sometimes unhealthy!) competition and have created both fun, skills and good stories that have been passed down through the generations, have brought people from around the world to this hard-to-get-to place, and has woven us into a community of participants, spectators, enthusiasts and competitors.

As we look back, and forward, to those who have competed and won, when the Hall of Fame was begun, it was never enough to “just win a medal”.

To be in the Sun Valley Winter Sports Hall of Fame means the people listed did much more than just win and then hang up their skis, hockey sticks or skates. They went on to coach, mentor, lead and influence others to embrace winter sports, push themselves harder than they thought possible, to maybe go on to excel, but to always remember to encourage those coming behind them and to lend advice, expertise, and experience with humility, grace, and a willingness to serve.

We hope these inspiring individuals give you a sense of this community of leaders and sports people and inspires you to consider skiing, skating or coaching – and, most importantly, in giving back to your community.
