Cameron Ellis is a mapmaker and anthropologist who works with indigenous communities in Central and South America to map indigenous territories that are under increasing threats from logging, mining, drug trafficking and a broad range of development pressures. He will talk about active mapping projects in Panama’s Darien Gap, Guyana Shield and Peruvian Amazon – exploring the landscapes, cultures, threats and emerging solutions for protecting tropical forests.

Come learn basic phrases, grammar, and vocabulary to set yourself up for successful interactions in Spanish no matter where they may occur! This introductory class will offer you opportunities to practice conversing, reading and listening. The instructor, Sara Pettit, holds a MA in Spanish Linguistics and has taught Spanish for 18 years.

Science Time with Ann Christensen
Ann Christensen will host Science Time in the Children’s Library. Sometimes furry, feathered, or scaled creatures make a visit and Ann teaches about animals, their habitats, and our natural world.
Science Time is every Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. It is best suited to preschool age children and up.
Paws to Read with Cricket
Cricket is a sweet, adorable dog who loves stories and loves to be read to. Cricket will be at the Children’s Library on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm throughout the month of September, except Wednesday, September 19th when Cricket will be on vacation.

Sewing Club
Sewing Club teaches basic hand-stitching through simple projects for kids. Children must be age 7 to attend and sign-up is required. Call the library at (208) 726-3493 x 2 to reserve a spot.
Parental help is encouraged and children under the age of 9 may not be left alone at the library.
