The theme of the 2015 Family of Woman Film Festival is “Women and Their Dreams” The films that the Community Library will show from its collection of the past seven years of the festival, will feature girls and women who have held their own dreams.
Join us for a free screening of Mrs. Goundo’s Daughter, the true story of a woman seeking political asylum in the United States. If she is sent back to her native Mali, her three-year-old daughter will be genitally mutlilated as she herself was as a child. Filmmakers Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater, divided their time between covering Mrs. Goundo’s trial in Philadelphia and Mali, where they followed a group of young girls as they were prepared for their initiation into “womanhood”.
