A Presentation by Nancy Hughes

July 7, 2021 by kmerwin

Join Nancy Hughes, Ketchum’s local CNN Hero, as she tells the story of StoveTeam.

StoveTeam helps local entrepreneurs establish factories in Latin America. These self-sustaining businesses produce safe, affordable, fuel-efficient cookstoves to replace dangerous open cooking fires.

Nancy’s inspiring story of starting stove factories to improve health has been featured on both the PBS Newshour and Forbes.

The work Nancy started at the age most people retire has resulted in the production and sale of more than 50,840 safe cookstoves, improving the lives of more than 381,000 individuals in Latin America.

Join us at the library to learn more about how volunteers of any age can come on a volunteer trip to Guatemala.

Nancy Hughes, President of StoveTeam International, transformed a small Rotary club project into this effective international charity to help develop sustainable local factories in the developing world that produce safe, affordable, fuel-efficient stoves.

The Ecocina stoves they produce reduce deforestation and carbon emissions while eliminating both burns and respiratory illnesses. In the seven years since StoveTeam International’s inception, 50,840 stoves have improved the lives of more than 381,300 individuals in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.

For her work, Nancy has been honored as a Rotary White House Champion of Change and has been featured on the PBS Newshour. She is a CNN Hero, and the recipient of the prestigious International Purpose Prize.
