“Forum on Charitable Giving for Maximum Benefit” with the Wood River Women’s Foundation

July 7, 2021 by kmerwin

Join the Wood River Women’s Foundation (WRWF) for a panel discussion on the why, how and what of charitable giving. Come to engage, listen and learn about ideas and opportunities to support the many nonprofits in the Wood River Valley community.

The panel will discuss: What are the personal and psychological benefits of giving? How do we assess the impact of giving to a charity? What financial and legal strategies are available and how are their benefits best realized? The panel invites an open discussion to work toward improving the community.

The evening will also serve as the official launch of the recently published Giving Guide of the Wood River Valley.

The panel will be moderated by Jenni Riley, WRWF Education Committee Member and Director of the Giving Guide of the Wood River Valley. All members of the community are invited to this free event.

Tech Class: Internet Privacy Workshop with Paul Zimmerman

July 7, 2021 by kmerwin

This modern era has proven that it’s up to users to keep their information private on the internet.  There are countless bots, trackers, and systems that try to turn all of your internet activity into data points for advertising (or worse).  In this workshop, we will go through some prevention steps together (so bring a device!) that will help us minimize our trackable data.

Author Dean Kuipers reads from his new memoir, “The Deer Camp”

July 7, 2021 by kmerwin

In this brand new memoir, a son tells the story of his father, a talented outdoorsman and troubled family man, who buys a 100-acre hunting property in Michigan to bond the family. Their relationship to that degraded landscape becomes a way for them to negotiate their relationships with each other. The writer David George Haskell writes, “Kuipers has an extraordinary ear. With great acuity and insight he hears and interprets the voices of human family and ecological community. In beautiful prose, he uncovers and honors both the brokenness and the joy of our relationships with each other and the land.”

The Deer Camp was published on May 14. Dean Kuipers was the deputy music editor of the Los Angeles Times entertainment site, and his previous books include Operation Bite Back and Burning Rainbow Farm.

Rember’s books include Traplines: Coming Home to Sawtooth Valley, Sudden Death, Over Time, and MFA in a Box, and his next book is forthcoming in 2020 from the University of New Mexico Press.
