TV Discussion Group with Mimi Avins: Season One of Ozark
The golden age of television that has loomed large in entertainment for a number of years has morphed into the era of Too Much Good TV. How to make sense of it all? The TV Discussion Group, which will meet weekly from January 3rd through January 31st, is a place where TV obsessives and skeptics gather to dissect one season of a prestige series. This time out, the group will analyze the intricate plots and deep character development of season one of “Ozark,” much as a book group critiques a novel. “Ozark” is an Emmy-award winning satirical crime drama starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, a couple who move their family to rural Missouri when financial and marital problems precipitate a hasty retreat from Chicago. If you think, as they did, that the Ozarks are a bucolic paradise where frazzled city slickers can breathe easy in the company of down to earth locals, think again.
Ketchum resident Mimi Avins, who covered pop culture in her years as a staff writer for The Los Angeles Times, will lead the discussion. Each session will explore two episodes of the series. PLEASE WATCH THE FIRST TWO EPISODES PRIOR TO THE FIRST MEETING ON JANUARY 3RD!
Creative Writing Workshop with Tony Evans
The Creative Writing Workshop is open to all genres and levels, providing a supportive atmosphere where local writers can share their work. Please bring you favorite books, stories and poems, and samples of your works-in-progress. Writing topics, styles and techniques will be explored weekly. Drop-ins welcome.
Tony Tekaroniake Evans is an award-winning journalist and columnist at the Idaho Mountain Express newspaper in Ketchum who has led writing workshops in the Wood River Valley since 2004.
