Classes, Discussion Groups, and Workshops

SAT and ACT Study Group

Is your student in need of support preparing for the ACT or SAT? Join Richelle Jones, experienced tutor and former Greenwich (CT) Board of Education staffer, for study hour with tutoring support on Thursday afternoons. Some materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring work books, computers or smart phones for this study hour.

Thursdays, October 17 to Dec. 12*, 4:30-5:30 at The Community Library.

*No study group on October 31 or November 28.

Free, and drop-ins are welcome!

Creative Writing Workshop with Tony Evans

The Creative Writing Workshop is open to all genres and levels, providing a supportive atmosphere where local writers can share their work. Please bring your favorite books, stories and poems, and samples of your works-in-progress. Writing topics, styles and techniques will be explored weekly.

Tony Tekaroniake Evans is an award-winning journalist and columnist at the Idaho Mountain Express newspaper in Ketchum who has led writing workshops in the Wood River Valley since 2004.

Wednesdays, October 2 – December 18.

(No class Wednesday, November 27)

Class will meet in the Learning Commons Conference Room. Drop-ins are welcome.

English as a Second Language for Adults

ENGLISH CLASS FOR ADULTS Free!

Every Tuesday, September 3 – November 19, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Open to adults of all languages who wants to learn English or improve skills.

Teachers Janet Ross-Heiner, M.A. Ed-ESL, and Karen Little, MAT, will assist non-native speakers in their effort to improve their English language skills. 

The first two classes (September 3 and September 10) will meet in the Center for Regional History.

Lunchtime Language – Intermediate Spanish with Sara Pettit

Come practice Spanish in fun and useful situations. This high-novice to mid-intermediate class will offer you opportunities to converse, read, listen, and watch authentic materials in Spanish. New vocabulary will be presented, and grammar will be strengthened.  

Wednesdays, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. from September 25 to December 18 in the Learning Commons.

(No class Wednesday, November 27)

Free, and drop-ins are welcome.

Beginning Communicative Spanish 1 with Sara Pettit*

**Registration is required through the College of Southern Idaho (CSI). Call the Blaine County campus at (208) 788-2038 to register.**

Come learn basic phrases, vocabulary, and foundational grammar to set yourself up for successful interactions in Spanish, no matter where they may occur. This fun introductory class will offer you opportunities to practice conversing, listening and reading.

The instructor, Sara Pettit, holds a MA in Spanish Linguistics and has taught Spanish for 19 years.

Dates:         Tuesdays (9 weeks): September 17 – November 19*

Time:          12:45 – 2:00 pm

Location:   The Community Library – Learning Commons Conference Room

*There will be no class October 15
