Circa 1885, this image features a traditional Chinese ceremony taking place up Warm Springs Canyon. This was taken by assayer and photographer Eugene Antz. The Wood River Valley’s Chinese community in the late 1800s worked in the local mines, on railroads, and also managed gardens and restaurants in the area. Jayne A. Suit of Lights
This spectacular Suit of Lights was worn by legendary Spanish Bullfighter Antonio Ordóñez. It was purchased by Ernest Hemingway—who was a close friend of Ordóñez—during Hemingway’s “Dangerous Summer” of 1959, when he was following the bullfighting circuits.
Matadors were superstitious about wearing costumes with blood stains on them, such as this one. David Meeker Collection.
