Esperanze Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan
Hi, my name is Zane. I am in sixth grade. I enjoy playing soccer, video games, and exercising.
Esperanza Rising was a pretty good book in my opinion. The book is about 13-year-old Esperanza, who lives in a mansion in Mexico. Sadly, she lost her dad to the bandits around town, which meant she had to immigrate to California and become a worker. Esperanza faces challenges as she does not fit in because she doesn’t know how to do any chores.
I think that this was a very great book, but it was not all for me. One example is because I do not know a lot about history or the time period the book was written in, which was during the great depression. Another reason why this was not my favorite book was because it got a little sad and some things happened that you really didn’t want to happen. With that said, there were many parts that I enjoyed. The parts that I enjoyed were the parts that were exciting and went well for Esperanza and her family. Another thing that I liked was how Esperanza got to be less bratty and greedy, and realized what the world is actually like.
Overall, Esperanza Rising was a great book. I think that the ending was great, and the book had a lot of good meanings and life lessons in it.
