National Library Week 2026

The Community Library Celebrates National Library Week April 20 – 24, with Special “I Love My Library” Events for All Ages

2026 National Library Week

Beginning April 20, and running through April 24, The Community Library in Ketchum is hosting a series of drop-in events to celebrate libraries, library workers, the love of books, and the freedom to read whatever one chooses.

Director of Library Operations Pam Parker explains, “The Community Library is a place where we celebrate reading and literacy every day of the year. During National Library Week, we make a special point of celebrating the intellectual freedoms that are foundational to America’s libraries. This year, I Love My Library is our theme (#ILoveMyLibrary), and we invite people throughout the Valley to drop in and show their support for all that libraries do. And maybe win a fun prize!”

During National Library Week, The Community Library will host a series of events themed on special days that run from Monday to Thursday. Drop in and learn more about the Freedom to Read as well as the importance of reading and intellectual freedom. Special events include treats and prizes and will be held daily between 2:30 and 4:30 pm.

Monday: Intellectual Freedom Meet & Greet and Kids’ Bookmark Making

Librarians will answer questions about the Library’s mission as we kick off National Library Week on Intellectual Freedom Day. Fun bookmarks, postcards, and other “Read Fearlessly” swag will be handed out. Kids get to make their own bookmark to mark their place as they “Read Fearlessly.” More here.

Tuesday: Library/Archive Tours and “Why I Love My Library” Kids’ Post-its

Two tours will be offered for those that would like to learn about the Library’s operations, special collections, and archival spaces. Meet up in the Main Library’s Foyer a few minutes before 2:30 p.m. Kids get to make posters with reasons they love their library. More here.

Wednesday: “Touch Grass” and Visit the Bookmobile

In honor of Earth Day and National Library Outreach Day, we head outside to the Donaldson Robb Family Lawn, on the west side of Library, to “touch grass” (be fully present) for the afternoon. The Library’s new Bookmobile will be available to explore—inside and out. Librarians will also have some suggested reads, plus seed packets and treats to give away. More here.

Thursday: Digital Daze and Button Making

Reference Librarian Buffy McDonald and Collections Manager Aly Wepplo, will be available in the Learning Commons for those that could use some encouragement in using our digital and online services. The Children’s Library is hosting a Button Making event for kids to color and press a button that celebrates books and reading. More here.

For every event you attend, you get a free raffle ticket for terrific prizes, including gift cards to Gold Mine Thrift, Canvas books, bags, and signed copies of “That Librarian.” Come join the fun and show your support for libraries and the right to read freely. The drawing to be held on Thursday, April 23, at 4:30 pm., and winners will be notified of the prizes they’ve won.

Launched in 1958, National Library Week recognizes libraries and librarians for their contributions to our society. The Community Library honors this tradition and supports intellectual freedom and the concept “Read Fearlessly.”

As part of this effort, we offer “I Love My Library” postcards for anyone to send to friends, family, or others who might want to hear about how much you value libraries.
