Wild Bird by Wendelin Van Draanen
My name is Bria. I love to read as well as ski, swim, and dance.
Wren is a juvenile delinquent, but she hasn’t always been that way. Ever since they moved to California when Wren was going into middle school, she has been made fun of about her name and hasn’t made any friends. Her perfect sister, Annabella, is right away popular and doesn’t have time for her. One day Wren meets a girl in the bathroom doing makeup, who seems really nice. Her name is Meadow. Meadow and Wren start to become friends. However, Meadow also teaches Wren to steal, do drugs, drink alcohol, and shoplift. Wren knows she is toxic and is doing it wrong, but she’s addicted.
Then one day Wren is high. When she comes home and her parents send her with a guy who takes her to a camp in the middle of the desert. She learns that she’s in Utah and she’ll be there for eight weeks to find herself. From there she must learn to survive in the desert with the little supplies they give her. Will she survive? Will she be a better person by the end of the camp? Will she find true friends with the other campers?
Wild Bird is an amazing book about finding who you want to be and second chances. I really enjoyed this book because it shows that people can change if there given the chance, and it was action packed. I recommend this book to anyone who likes an interesting story line and intense action.
