The Clackity by Lora Senf
Hi my name is Kire. I am a 8th grader who loves to read and write book reviews!
The Clackity is a spooky fiction novel about a 12-year-old girl named Evie as she tries to save her aunt from a monster called the Clackity.
The book starts with Evie explaining everything there is to know about the town she lives in which happens to be the seventh most haunted town in the United States. Naturally this leads to things like ghost encounters. In fact, Evie’s aunt’s job is to help get rid of those ghosts and hauntings.
One day, Evie’s aunt has a job in one of the most haunted buildings in the town. When her aunt doesn’t come home, Evie goes looking for her. When Evie gets to the building, she realizes that a scary monster has taken her beloved aunt. From then on out, Evie goes on an adventure through a different dimension where she must go through a series of spooky houses each with their own challenge waiting inside. Although it’s hard, Evie is able to get through the challenges and save her aunt in the end.
I read The Clackity because it was an Idaho Battle of the Books (IBOB) book and it definitely wasn’t the type of book that I would grab on my own. I found at times that the story was predictable and often the descriptions were very detailed, which made some of the scenes boring. Overall, I don’t think I would recommend this book but people who enjoy spooky stories might enjoy reading The Clackity.
