Dive by John David Anderson
Hi, my name is Sophia and my favorite hobbies are theatre, crocheting, and reading. Almost always, when I have a moment of free time, I choose to curl up with my cat and dive into a good book
Dive, by John David Anderson, is a nice, meaningful story, great as a filler book to cheer you up. I recommend it for middle schoolers and younger, because as a middle schooler myself, I felt as if I would have enjoyed it a lot as well at a younger age, but I still had a nice time diving into its pages.
This book is about a girl named Kass Conner, who has felt alone ever since she moved to a new school, away from her best friend. Kass’s life takes a twist when after a diving meet, she meets a high school dropout named Miles digging through other people’s trash. Her first reaction is to walk away, but her heart says otherwise. Through time they become close friends until Kass takes charge and goes to the homeless people’s bridge alone. She has good intentions, but Miles had warned her to be cautious. Sure enough, she runs into trouble, and Miles gets into a fight to save her. After that, Miles tells her to keep her distance. However, in the end Miles calls her back to help him rescue his dad, ending the book in a touching way.
I liked how the book was written in a meaningful way that got to the reader, and how much detail was in the pages, so you could really imagine that you were there with Kass and Miles. Dive is a sweet novel, and I recommend it for others who like a touching story about how one event can turn your life upside down.
