Animal Farm by George Orwell
Hi, my name is Judah and I like to play soccer, ski and play tennis.
Animal Farm is an extremely interesting book written by George Orwell. George Orwell wrote this short book to show what the outcome of communism would be through animals on a farm. Specifically, he wrote this book to warn people about Joseph Stalin’s ideals.
When the book begins, one pig by the name of “Old Major” tells the animals of the farm about his dream where the animals lived free from the farmers control over them. Soon after he tells them, he dies and the rest of the animals hold a meeting about starting a revolution to end their suffering under farmer Jones. Two pigs rise into power, Snowball and Napoleon. They start running the farm to provide feed and to keep the animals under control. As time passes, however, Snowball shows his true colors and starts to become a dictator and puts down others who equal him in power. This whole plan starts to spiral out of control with Napoleon being able to trick the rest of the animals into thinking every single decision he makes is correct. By the end of the book, the animals watching this farm from a distance cannot tell the difference between the pigs and the farmers. Overall, I think this book is a great read with its clever way of depicting dictatorship through the pigs. I would recommend this book for ages fourteen and up for some of the violence and understanding of the plot.
