Yonder by Ali Standish
My name is Bria, I am a ski racer, swimmer, and dancer. I love reading in my free time.
Yonder is a historical fiction novel set during World War II. The story follows Danny Timmons, a thirteen-year-old boy whose father is fighting in Europe and whose mother is expecting a baby. Danny’s best friend is Jack Bailey; a boy Danny admires for saving children during the Great Flood of 1940. Jack has taught Danny many things since they met. One of these things is “Yonder,” a mysterious town Jack heard about from his mother. It is a place where beautiful birds roam the land, and everyone lives in peace and harmony. “You would only believe it if you saw it,” explains Jack. When Jack disappears and everyone else loses hope, Danny feels he must find him. So, he begins a journey to search for Jack.
Yonder by Ali Standish is interesting, and unique. I liked the storyline of the book. There are many good things about this book. Firstly, it had strong characters. Secondly, it was very emotional. There was a lot of emotion when Jack went missing. However, I thought that this book could use a little more excitement. There were a couple parts where it was exciting, but overall, it needed more action. I also thought that the format was a little confusing. It went from flashback to current time and at times that was confusing and hard to keep track of. Overall, I liked the book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction.
