The Sherlock Society by James Ponti
Hi my name is Kire. I am a 8th grader who loves to read and write book reviews!
The Sherlock Society by James Ponti follows a group of middle school students Alex, Zoe, Lina, and Yadi who decide to make a detective agency to make some money over the summer.
The book starts with an action-packed scene where the main characters are all escaping an exploding boat. After getting a sneak peek about what was coming later in the story, we learn that our four middle schoolers are stuck without anything to do this summer. This is when Zoe, whose parents told her she couldn’t go to the camp she really wanted to go to, comes up with the idea of creating a detective agency. She recruits her brother Alex, who is good at solving puzzles, and their friends Lina and Yadi. Together, they all convince Alex and Zoe’s grandfather to help them and just like that they start trying to solve the mystery of where a man named Al Capone hid his supposed treasure in hopes they would find it and make lots of money.
This unfortunately ends up not going well but little did they know that through failing at one mystery, they would actually come across another that would lead them to the boat that was blowing up. What are the events leading up to the explosion? Will they live through the explosion? What is the mystery? Read to find out.
Overall, I found The Sherlock Society to be a fun and action-packed book to read and although it’s not the best mystery book I have ever read, it’s definitely still worth a read.
