The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
My name is Bria, I am in 8th grade and in my free time I enjoy skiing.
The Naturals is a mystery book; it has aspects of romance and involves serial killers. Cassie Hobbes is part of an FBI program for gifted teens. Cassie has an ability for profiling people. This means that if she saw you, she could put herself in your head and see things from your perspective. The FBI program has the teenagers work on cold cases and try to solve them. Profiling people is a helpful skill to have because you can put yourself in the victim’s head. There are four other teens in this program: Dean (another profiler), Micheal (who can read emotions), Lia (can spot tell lies), and Sloane (who recognizes patterns). Cassie’s family life isn’t spectacular. Her dad works overseas with the military, and her mom was presumed dead after a brutal murder. What happened to her mom has a huge effect on her. The story revolves around a large string of murders that involves the naturals and starts to get dangerous. The murders start to seem personal.
This book involves intriguing mystery and a hint of romance. I enjoyed this book because it kept me interested but it did have a slow start. In my opinion, it didn’t start getting interesting until around chapter 7. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a captivating mystery.
