SVELS Book Discussion: Frankenstein
Friday, January 2, 2:30-4 p.m.
About the Discussion
Start the new year by reading a book for pleasure! Delve into the classic novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley with your SVELS colleagues. We’ll revel in deep reading, and we’ll also make connections with Scarborough’s Rope, thinking about all of the strands that we are weaving, all of the reading skills we are applying, as we read and talk about this book. Jenny Emery Davidson will moderate the discussion on Zoom. We’ll send you a book and some treats so that you can do some cozy reading over the holiday break. Sign up below by December 12.

About the Book
Obsessed by creating life itself, Victor Frankenstein plunders graveyards for the material to fashion a new being, which he shocks into life by electricity. But his botched creature, rejected by Frankenstein and denied human companionship, sets out to destroy his maker and all that he holds dear. This chilling gothic tale, begun when Mary Shelley was just nineteen years old, would become the world’s most famous work of horror fiction, and remains a devastating exploration of the limits of human creativity. Published by Penguin Classics.
