Solito by Javier Zamora
My name Is Jasper and I love to read. I like to play Cello, Wrestle, and Ski.
This captivating true story follows the author as a child as he treks through 2 countries and roughly 3,000 miles while immigrating from his home Central American country of El Salvador to America in 1999. Throughout the book, as nine-year old Javier progresses towards America, there are themes of suspense and adventure as he sees new things. Javier probably never would have expected the two weeks the journey was supposed to take turn into two months that would change his life.
I enjoyed this book because I am interested in the turn of events that helped him eventually arrive in America and what happened to him along the way. However, Solito does contain profanity and some mature themes, so I would not recommend it for younger readers. This book has also won book prizes from multiple substantial publications. For example, it has been considered a notable book of the year by The New York Times and spent more than 400 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. It has also received an award from the Los Angeles Times for the best autobiography. Solito is available in eBook format and as audiobook recording and in Spanish and English.
