Considerado el mayor Pintor Mexicano del siglo XX, Diego Rivera tuvo un profundo efecto en el mudo del arte internacional. Entre sus muchas contribuciones, a Rivera se le atribuye la reintroduciòn de la pintura al fresco en el arte y la arquitectura modernos. La industria de Detroit representa probablemente el màs famoso de todos los murales de Diego Rivera. Consta de 27 paneles al fresco pintados en las paredes interiores del Instituto de Arte de Detroit.
Diego Rivera nació en diciembre 8,1886 en un pueblo en México llamado Guanajuato. Luego se casó con Frida Kahlo el 1911 y tuvieron un hijo, Diego (1916-1918), que murió joven. Durante este tiempo, Rivera también tuvo una relación con la pintora Maria Vorobieff-Stebelska, quien dio a luz a una hija llamada Marika Rivera en 1918 o 1919. Diego tenía un gemelo pero murió de una enfermedad cuando tenía 1 año.
