The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
Hi, my name is Judah and I like to play soccer, ski and play tennis.
The Killer Angels is a great Civil War history novel written by Michael Shara that keeps any reader engaged throughout. This book showcases the lives of Civil War soldiers and captains from the Confederate and Union side. This book mainly follows the characters of Chamberlain and Buford of the Union side and Lee and Longstreet from the Confederate side. The main focus of this book is to show the lead-up to the battle of Gettysburg with the ultimate clash of forces at the end that will determine the winning side of the war. This book shows a lot of clashing between generals within each side, especially with the different strategies from Lee and Longstreet which would have been true to the real war. A big question that sparks from this book is the question of, “are men killer angels?” The book addresses this question by saying that if all men are “good” and have ruthless tactics on the battlefield, are they angels at heart, while at the same time being ruthless killers without morals? Overall, this book is very enjoyable for those who like a well written historical novel about the Civil war. This book is recommended to ages fourteen and up for some of the graphic scenes and for some of the coarse language.
