The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Hi, my name is Judah and I like to play soccer, ski and play tennis.
Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief is the first book in a five-part Greek mythology series of Percy Jackson written by Rick Riordan. The main character of this series is a boy named Percy Jackson. Percy is a twelve-year-old boy who struggles with ADHD and gets kicked out of most schools he is let into. Early on in this book, he finds out that he is a half-blood of Poseidon which means he is half man but also half god. Since he is a half-blood, he is sent to a camp made especially for other demigods. Suddenly disaster strikes as word spreads throughout the camp that Zeus’s mighty lightning bolt is stolen from Mount Olympus. Percy and his friends Anabeth and Grover then embark on a quest to find out where the lighting bolt has been taken. On their journey they are faced with creatures from the old legends of Greek mythology and many other monsters that hinder them on their quest. The author does a fantastic job at incorporating Greek mythology into the modern American world making it seem real. He also displays humor, friendship and plenty of action throughout the entire book. I would recommend this book for ages twelve through fifteen for kids who love action and are interested in old Greek tales.
