The Rebel Girls of Rome by Jordyn Taylor
Hi my name is Kire. I am a 8th grader who loves to read and write book reviews!
The Rebel Girls of Rome is a historical fiction novel that is written from two different perspectives.
Lilah is trying to uncover her grandpa’s history when she gets an email from a college student who lives in Rome, Tommasso. This email explains that Tommasso has found a locket while cleaning out his grandmother’s apartment and that it may relate to Lilah’s Grandfather’s history. Lilah shows the email to her grandpa and the two fly to Rome to investigate the locket. Tommasso and Lilah then begin their research into their grandparents.
Bruna lives a great life until the Nazi’s occupy Rome, and her entire life is flipped upside down. A Nazi officer bangs on her house door and leaves a note saying that her whole family must pack up their things and leave for a Jewish concentration camp in 20 minutes. The whole family begins to pack up when they realize that Bruna’s younger brother isn’t in the house. Bruna is sent to find him, but she fails and starts to head back home so she can join her family. When she gets back, Bruna realizes she’s too late and her family is already in the line to leave. Bruna runs away to her friend’s house where she ends up hiding out until she feels it’s too dangerous. This is when Bruna joins the resistance and starts fighting against the Nazi occupation. How do these stories relate to each other? Read to find out.
I found this book to be interesting to read. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and there were plenty of twists and turns that I would have never expected. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in World War II and people who enjoy reading books by Jordyn Taylor.
