The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Hi my name is Kire. I am a 8th grader who loves to read and write book reviews!
The Grandest Game is a fast-paced novel by Jennifer Lynn Barnes that is written in the three main characters, Gigi, Rohan, and Lyra’s perspectives. These characters along with four other competitors are put into a game that billionaire Avery Grambs and the Hawthorne brothers from the Inheritance Games have created. In this game, 26 million dollars is on the line for whoever wins.
Competitors go through a series of puzzles and challenges in order to be the one who comes out on top. In this specific game, the competitors are put in teams and put in different rooms inside one of the many Hawthorne mansions. Each room has a different puzzle that has to be solved. The players are told that they have to escape the house before dawn. At the end of the book when most of the teams have escaped the house, there is just one team that doesn’t make it out in time. This team, which Gigi is on, is eliminated from the game and will not move to the next stage. This is where the book ends, leading to a huge cliffhanger that will be continued in the next book.
I found this book to be extremely exciting to read. It has all sorts of twists and turns that I never expected. Although you can read this book without reading the prior Inheritance Games novels, I would highly recommend that readers start with the Inheritance Games series and then move on to this book for more understanding of the characters. Overall, I really enjoyed reading The Grandest Game and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a thrilling book.
