Each Tiny Spark by Pablo Cartaya
My name is Bria, I am a ski racer, swimmer, and dancer. I love reading in my free time.
Each Tiny Spark by Pablo Cartaya is a book that explores themes of family and community through the eyes of a Cuban-American girl named Emilia. Emilia is a twelve-year-old girl that has trouble at school and finds herself at home helping her dad fix an old car. Her dad recently got back from deployment. He spends most of his time in their garage fixing an old car. Emilia enjoys watching her dad work and is mesmerized by his way with tools. Then one day Emilia’s dad teaches Emilia how to weld. This becomes somewhat of a tradition. It builds Emilia and her dad’s relationship, but other parts of their community start to fall apart due to controversies. Emilia offends a friend by defending another causing a whole mess of trouble.
I think that this book had a good story line and anyone who likes realistic fiction would love this book. It makes you feel like you understand her perspective. I think that the characters were well developed. Personally, I like books with more action. I thought that it got a little boring. Overall, I liked the book because it had a good storyline and plot. It made me feel invested in Emilia’s journey.
